HUGH R. SCHER

Hugh R. Scher is the founder of the law firm Scher Law Professional Corporation where he practices civil litigation with a focus on employment and human rights law as well as disability insurance litigation. For more than 25 years he has engaged in a broad range of civil litigation matters at all level of court and tribunal including multiple appearances before the Supreme Court of Canada.
He is frequently called upon to advise employers and employees about issues related to the accommodation of people with disabilities in the workplace, return to work plans, complaints of discrimination and harassment, the investigation of harassment complaints and complex dismissal cases.

Mr. Courtney Betty is a former Crown Attorney at the Department of Justice Canada, representing the Government of Canada in complex tax, commercial, and litigation matters. Mr. Betty has applied his 20 years of extensive legal experience in both government and the private sector, especially in the areas of international business development.


MAHYAR MAKKI

Mahyar Makki has been working in the legal industry since 2009. His experience in the legal industry has been focused in litigation. His Career began in Michigan as a student representing clients in wrongful dismissal actions against employers in the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Project and continued to serve the community in South Central Michigan where he represented the underprivileged communities. Currently, he is a partner at Quantum Business Law and his areas of practice include all aspects of civil litigation and tax dispute resolution, commencing at the objection stage with the Canada Revenue Agency, right to the appeals stage at the Tax Court of Canada and to the Federal Court. Makki currently has 25 matters in the Tax Court of Canada and several matters in Federal Court. His experience dealing with the Department of Justice enables him to resolve the majority of his cases quickly and efficiently.


GLYN HOTZ
HOTZ LAWYERS
Mr. Hotz’s practice has primarily been in class actions. He articled with the late Honourable Justice Edward W. Ducharme of the Court of Appeal for Ontario and for Harvey T. Strosberg. Class actions that have settled include the earliest privacy breach class action against Sony BMG, Air France flight 358 runway overrun Maple Leaf Foods Listeriosis outbreak; Natural Health Services privacy breach in 2019; and Zantac as a result of NDMA contamination in 2019.
